Guerrilla Games' Killzone 2 for PS3 - Image 1It looks like Sony Computer Entertainment UK kind of flubbed up their announcement regarding the September release date for Guerrilla Games' Killzone 2. The developers earlier amended Sony's announcement and mentioned that the game still has no definite release date as of yet. For more details regarding this statement, read our full article after the jump.

BBC has just released some new gameplay video of Killzone 2 following the release of their review. Their review, if you remember, praised the game for its graphics so much so that the reviewer believes it might spark another debate in video game violence.

The video features all new gameplay video and a word from the developers. Herman Hulst, one of the developers, also comments about the importance of the game not only for Guerrilla Games, but for the PlayStation 3 as well:

I believe it’s fair to say it’s a very important title for both of us [Guerrilla and Sony]. You hear a lot of big claims on what it [Killzone 2] means to the platform. For myself and the guys here at Guerrilla, we’re just looking to make the best first person shooter that we can. Where that contributes to the platform that’s a fantastic bonus for us.

Thanks to Tails for finding a better version of the video.

You may love 'em or hate 'em but let's face it, the contributions of bosses to gaming are almost as important as those of the good guys themselves. In this edition of the QuickList, we're honoring the cream of the crop among the bad guys. The criteria? We scrutinized each based on what he had to offer and what he does best. Whether it's style, toughness or infamy, we took them by what they had to offer and we found 10 left standing. Again, this is all subjective and your opinions are as good as ours. Here they are:

10. The Polar Bear (Ice Climber)- After hours of grueling debates on the subject of whether he's even a boss or not, the Ice Climber Polar Bear has eked his way to a cliff-hanging tenth spot on this list. There's not a lot to say about him in terms of difficulty, but gamers from the past know what time it is when they see the hot, red briefs over the off-white fur. It means you're taking too long to climb and he'll force-advance the level with a jumping fart.

Usually, there's no problem getting to his face and pounding his toes with a mallet, but when playing with a friend or sibling, it sparks an unfriendly war of who gets to nail him. The only way to make sure that you do the honors is to sabotage your partner with guerrilla tactics like unorthodox body checks and busting the floors where they stand. We won't be surprised to hear about domestic violence resulting from this scenario.

The rest of the bad-ass bosses await after the jump!

Killzone 2 - Image 1We've all seen the E3 trailer of the highly anticipated shooter Killzone 2 by Guerrilla games and it was nothing short of spectacular. Now, IGN reveals some new story details which are linked to the gameplay and a few comments from Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide chief Phil Harrison.

Set hot off the heels of the first game's conclusion, Killzone 2 has you playing as Sev who takes part in an ISA assault mission on the Helghast homeworld. Thinking the mission would be an easy one, the ISA is caught off guard by what they found.

The locals are not only giving the invaders a run for their money, but they whipped out a nasty surprise: the Helghans can now manipulate their environments and use it to their advantage. This puts the ISA in the sticky position of fending off the enemy and fighting nature itself.

So what do you do when even the planet is against you? There's no other way the ISA knows better than to strike back with extreme prejudice. The environments are fully destructible so that you can take your pent-up rage on the planet and blast away the tree-loving aliens.

"Guerrilla have worked hard to focus the power of PlayStation 3 to realize their true vision for the game," says Harrison as he says that the hype around the title is well-deserved after what the developers have shown since 2005.

"With incredible action, drama-fueled gameplay sequences, and a vast array of weapons and vehicles, Killzone 2 defines a new benchmark of our industry," he concludes.

Killzone: Liberation - Image 1While Killzone 2 might not reach the shelves any time soon, we've got an interview for you guys to pass time. From Killzoneunit.com, Killzone: Liberation's producer Steven Ter Heide talks about his life with Guerrilla Games and the first game he ever produced.

What exactly is his role at Guerrilla Games? Apparently, he's the guy who does the scheduling and balancing work - currently his doing this for Killzone 2. It's his job to make sure they're on the right track, that they're moving close to the game they're creating step by step. He worked on Killzone: Liberation for the PSP as his first game and he obviously enjoyed it. "It’s great to see early concepts come to life" he says.

During the interview, Heide also expressed his joy and satisfaction when people at E3 went straight to multiplayer after touching their handheld demos. With the focus being on making Killzone: Liberation enjoyable in multiplayer, he commented "we knew we were definitely on the right track", after getting positive comments during the big conference. "After the first 2 minutes... people want to get their hands on it themselves, because it just looks like fun!" he adds.

The rest of the interview went on with him talking about his favorites from Liberation, level 2.1 being his favorite stage and Cobar's revolver his favorite weapon. When asked about making a sequel, he said he just wants more of the same since the original already has a lot of features.

Lastly, he was asked to finish the following sentence: “Working at Guerrilla Games is similar to slaving in the Helghan Mines because…” His response? "…I’m not answering this question as I am the slave-driver. Now get back to work!"

New details on Killzone PS3 - Image 1New details regarding Killzone PS3have been revealed by game developers from Guerrilla Games. They announced some of the features they have added to Killzone PS3 which should differentiate itself from other FPS.

The developers
mentioned that it was easier to develop the game on the PS3 since they had more computing power to play with unlike the limited power the PS2 provided. They went so far as to say that if theycould imagine it, they could implement it. So what have the developers been imagining and implementing?

One of the new features they added involves the improvement of the physics engine. No longer will a tank be stopped by a wooden fence, it would simply keep rolling on. In addition to this, lighting and shadowing have been improved to cinema-like quality, making the game prettier than its previous incarnations. Finally, they have also announced that practically the entire world would be destructible. No specifics on this have been given, but we hope that walls can be leveled by using a tank.

Killzone PS3 is slated to be released in Europe on July 13, while the US release date has yet to be announced. If you've been patiently waiting for the the game, it may be good for you to know that new info about Killzone PS3 will be shown in the next issue of PSM.

Killzone liberation - Image 1Guerrilla Games has released a statement announcing that it has not released exclusive screenshots or any other details about their upcoming Killzone game for the PlayStation 3, dispelling the would-be whopper of the Official PlayStation Magazine, UK.

"Well that was one big false alarm. We are not releasing any screenshots or info or anything regarding Killzone for PS3 in any publication, print or otherwise, at this present time. Now do not ask me why OPM decided to go with that back-page "exclusive". I don't work at OPM, ask them," says a Killzone developer.

The PS3 community in the UK and the US recently had their heads turned when OPM UK announced in their back cover that they have Killzone screenshots coming exclusively next issue. The most probable explanation is that the announcement is a prelude to a huge April Fools prank, though there's an off-chance that OPM has an insider at Guerrilla. We'll find out soon, won't we?
