We're faced with stylish demon-slashing action (as well as the
occasional rain of bullets) in this latest batch of E3 gameplay videos
about Devil May Cry 4 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Here's the skinny on what's new with Nero and Dante and all the
unspeakable terrors they'll be juggling back and forth with sharp
pointy objects.
The first video is a developer interview with Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and the producer talks about how Dante's presented as more of a villain this time around. He also differentiates the two protagonists, saying that the wise-cracking demon slayer from the past three games is more of a "mature cool" guy, compared to Nero - and from the looks of the gameplay bits in the video, it's safe to say that he's just as snarky as Dante. Which of course is still awesome. The other two videos in this update shows off two of the many kinds of monsters you'll be facing off against. One of them is the Rancid Doll, which looks (and attacks) in a similar fashion as the Marionette enemies from the first Devil May Cry. The other one looks to be a variation of the Rancid Doll, but with a long wicked blade for a leg. Blade-legs or not, though, Nero still rips through them in the signature gajillion-hit combo style that's typical of the series. No more spoilers from us, enjoy the videos! Game Informer managed to squeeze out some sweet info from Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi of the DMC series. You guys are probably keeping your eyes peeled for anything Devil May Cry 4, so we're sure you'd want to read this 'til the end. Kobayashi reconfirmed that Dante will get a piece of the action, but he won't be unlockable. Our demon slayer in red will be made available to play as story unfolds. "He is not an unlockable bonus character, but is playable as part of the game’s storyline,” said Kobayashi. Other characters from earlier in the series will be playable too, but we don't know yet who they'll be. “I can’t reveal who, but there will be characters from the series appearing in the game. That’s something you’ll have to play the game to find out!” It would be pretty cool to swing the Yamato as Vergil again, but this blogger is rooting for Lady. Picking up new weapons from enemy bosses is a thing in the past, but Nero will be learning new skills for his Devil Bringer. We don't know yet if Devil Trigger will be scrapped too, but Kobayashi doesn't deny the possibility. Most fans know that the North American version's Normal difficulty was equivalent of Japan's Hard. This time around, difficulty will be the identical worldwide. Speaking of identical, there won't be any differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. That's right, no reason for fanboys to fight. “There are currently no plans to support the Sixaxis controller,” said Kobayashi. There are also no plans for online multiplayer, but it won't be surprising to have 2-player support. DMC 3 allowed a second player to control Dante's Doppelganger image, and even Vergil on a certain part of the game so we might see Dante side by side with Nero. Finally, no DMC 4 demo at E3. Doesn't seem too bad, since it can only mean Capcom's focusing on the release. We'll get something at Tokyo Game Show to ease the pain of waiting for the game to hit the shelves come Q1 2008. |

Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer of Devil May Cry 4 has finally given his two cents on the issue regarding DMC4's move from being a PS3 exclusive to a multiplatform title, as reported by Famitsu Xbox 360. He has this to say about the controversial decision: Devil May Cry is an extremely strong name overseas...so there was of course the business decision that we couldn't exclude the Xbox 360. We're using an engine called Framework for development, and it's extremely easy to have a multiplatform strategy including the PC. You can say that Devil May Cry 4 is the first such offering. With the increase in platforms, we have the chance of more people being able to play the game, so we're also happy as developers. The content will be exactly the same. Regardless of which one you buy, you will be able to get the same enjoyment. What's different is perhaps the shape of the controller and graphic peculiarities for each hardware. We wanted to avoid arguments about which one is better. When asked about DMC4's completion, Kobayashi said that they are doing well but admitted that they had encountered some problems since this is the first time that he and his team handled next generation hardware development. "Clearing those is difficult," he laughed, and added that were it to be released for the PS2, DMC4 would have been finished already. Making the game run at 60 frames per second was also one of the obstacles the developing team had to face. While he cannot give a release date yet, Kobayashi said that there will be an improved version of the DMC4 demo for this September's Tokyo Game Show. |
