San Diego's Comic-Con is bringing us a joyous serving of The Darkness exposure, and while I'm envying the journalists on location who are able to get a live preview of it, we here must feel content with these three grisly screenshots that have just been put out. So far, the game looks like pure evil in software form, and if it's actually as thoroughly dark and grim as it pretends to be, we may have a comic adaption done right on our hands. In case you didn't know, The Darkness is developed by the acclaimed studio that made Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay for the Xbox and PC. This time, players take up the role of Mafia hitman Jackie Estacado, who is suddenly possessed by spectacular evil powers on his 21st birthday. With these powers, he can unleash unimaginable destruction on his enemies, a thing he'll hopefully be doing a lot in the game. The Darkness promises to be a visceral, non-linear experience that blends modern crime drama and supernatural horror. The title is scheduled for a release next winter on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Some time next year Barker will shock Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers with the release of Clive Barker's Jericho, an original paranormal-horror action title rich in visuals and phantasmagorical special effects. Clive Barker's Jericho mixes the darkest elements of Barker’s horror fiction and films with an ambitious, age-spanning story for mature gamers as well as Barker fans and horror fiction enthusiasts. Clive Barker’s Jericho revolves around the mysterious reappearance of a lost city in a remote desert. Along with the city, a form of evil as old as Earth resurfaces from there. A Special Forces squad, trained in both conventional warfare and the secret arts, must hunt down and destroy the evil that lurks at the heart of the city before it destroys humanity. “This project is very close to my heart and I don’t believe there's ever been anything like it. It promises to be the most spectacular, creative, and unflinching realization of a Clive Barker nightmare that will drag players in kicking and screaming. Players will constantly be given new challenges, new environments, and yes, new horrors and abominations to face every step of the way,” says Clive Barker. “However, unlike a conventional game in which the characters are attempting to escape at the end of their ride through Hell, our protagonists have a much more difficult task. The closer they come to the end of their trek into darkness, the nearer they get to the source of that darkness: Evil Incarnate, we'll call it for now…" With an Evil incarnate playing the bad guy, you know this is going to be one hell of a ride! Clive Barker's Jericho is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PS3 by Codemasters. |

Yes, there's going to be a Castlevania movie and yes, we'll let you know everything about the man behind it, but first we'll start with the news that prompted this little article. In a recent interview with horror movie enthusiast website Bloody Disgusting, the man at the helm of the planned Castlevania flick, Paul W.S. Anderson let the following be known about the films plot: "It will integrate Dracula's origin story with the story of the Belmonts,[There are] a fair amount of references [to the original NES games]." He continues, "[This will be] a whole new spin to 'Castlevania'," and the best part, "The whip is still in it." So at least we know Dracula's in the movie, and we know we'll see the Belmonts, and whip, calming stuff. What's a little alarming is where he Anderson remarks that "This will be a whole new spin to Castlevania." Without getting too worked up over a simple comment, it's always a scary proposition when a Hollywood filmmaker decides to put a new spin on cherished time honored material, mario-bros/2427" id="tag" title="">Super Mario Bros. The Movie anyone? Paul W.S. Anderson has made a career of directing videogame movie adaptations, and while he's hardly a remarkable film maker he's had some reasonable success... and his name doesn't end in Boll. With that said, let's have a look at Anderson's relevant filmography, judge how closely the movies followed the subject matter, decide how successful they were and see if we can map a course of prediction for Castlevania: The Movie, shall we? Read the entire article right after the jump! |

There's nothing quite like a brand new juicy squishy rumor to get the old noggin a rolling, and here's one that comes from the Team Xbox forums concerning Konami's next installment of the popular Silent Hill series. -The game will have a next gen release, all signs indicate it'll be coming to the PS3, but it's likely the 360 will not be left out in the cold. -It'll be developed by an American R&D team. -Gameplay will be influenced by the highly successful and popular Resident Evil 4. Let's look at each one of these rumors in greater detail shall we? First, the fact that it's coming to PS3 and Xbox 360, was there ever even any doubt on this matter? Next! Second, and far more interesting, is the fact that development will be overseen by a totally different team this time around, an American team. While some are already sounding the series death knell, let's remember that the Silent Hill team has been working on this series since 1998! It's probably a good thing their moving on, hopefully to something fresh and new. Also, Konami's not stupid, Silent Hill is one of their more high profile videogame series, and they'll do everything the can to continue as such. Third, the Resident Evil 4 style gameplay rumor. I'm sort of torn on this one. On the one hand, RE:4 was awesome, and I would love to see more of that please, on the other, isn't that what Resident Evil 5 is for? And then there's the fact that when Silent Hill originally came out, it distinguished itself and created a whole sub-genre in survival horror by not being Resident Evil. To sure, we haven't been able to confirm any of this ourselves, so do please treat it as a rumor. |
