From the Kaz man: "It's difficult to talk about Nintendo, because we don't look at their console as being a competitor. They're a different world, and we operate in our world - that's the kind of way I look at things. And with the Xbox - again, I can't come up with one word to fit. You need a word that describes something that lacks longevity."

This feels like a case of identity crisis. The PlayStation 3 has been marketed so much as a Blu-ray player and home entertainment hub that Sony Computer Entertainment head Kaz Hirai had to reaffirm that "the main premise of the PS3 is video games." No, really?

Sony has stated before that they won't be giving their PlayStation 3 console a price cut, but president Kazuo Hirai has expressed confidence that the console will still hold its own against its lower-priced rivals. More from Kaz after the jump.

If you had the chance to go back and do things differently, what would it be? Kaz Hirai answers this question in his interview with EDGE, and reveals that he would probably have been a bit more prudent with the marketing strategy of the PlayStation 3.

There's no better competition than with yourself. Kaz Hirai recognizes the virtue in pushing challenges for oneself more, and so they're doing just that with their new set goal for the PS3. What's this new goal? Exceed PS2's lifetime sales. Now we all know that's a whole lot, right?

Kaz Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment's CEO and president, recently reassured owners of a 40GB PS3 that they still have a "very powerful machine." This was made In light of Sony Europe's recent announcement of an 80GB PS3 that'll replace the 40GB model in the region.

Sony Entertainment's head honcho Kazuo Hirai made huge waves (tsunamis!) a few days ago when he finally unveiled details of the video download service for the PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, word is that Hollywood studios still aren't in on Kaz's plans. Story in the full article.

Since late last year, all PlayStation3 units coming off the manufacturing line sport the more efficient 65nm Cell chip. Now Kazuo Hirai himself has confirmed that by this Fall, the RSX graphics chip will switch over to 65nm as well. More in the full article.

Over nine thousa-) *ahem* Well, actually, Solid Snake's power level is waaay over nine thousand. In fact, the Kaz man himself has confirmed that they've shipped a total of three million units of Metal Gear Solid 4 worldwide! Three million?! Why, that's more than Vegeta, Nappa, and Goku can handle, combined!

Earlier today, Sony exec Kaz Hirai announced the advent of a new service for the PlayStation 3, dubbed Life with PlayStation. Similar to some other services on the Wii, Life with PlayStation will launch with news and weather information channels, but will expand to other services in the future.
