Yesterday, EuroGamer gave us a preview of their interview with Heavenly Sword co-founder Tameem Antoniades. While we were just told about how the game was 90% complete and could have multiplayer support, we now get to see the full transcript of that same interview - and my, what an informative sit-down it is. Aside from talking about the combat in the game and how previously working on Kung Fu Chaos (Microsoft Xbox) contributed to Heavenly Sword, one of the more interesting points in the interview was when they touched on how the title stacked up to similar games (and movies) of the somewhat same genre. When suggested by EuroGamer that the game looks like a "Prince of Persia meets God of War," the answer from Antoniades was definitely something we didn't expect: If you really want a small list of influences and inspirations, how about this: the poetic beauty of ICO, the dynamic action of Panzer Dragoon Orta, the extreme style of Devil May Cry, the depth of combat of Virtua Fighter, the visual emotion of "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", the 'wire-fu' style of Yuen Woo Ping, the over-the-top action of "Kung Fu Hustle", the madness of "Versus" and the scale of "Lord of the Rings". What. A. Mouthful. That's indeed a lot of "X meets Y" comparisons, but despite it all, hey!, it works and helps us put the game in its place among all the other titles under the Action-Adventure umbrella. But in the end, Antoniades says that he'd prefer the game to be given its own merit. Don't be comparing apples and oranges, basically. Heavenly Sword is a wholly new experience as compared to other video games or movies. Cool beans. So, to make everyone happy, let's go for a compromise: it's actually Heavenly Sword: God(dess) of War (in Persia). Ha, we crack ourselves up sometimes. You can check out the full interview at the Read link below. |

Since Stranglehold is supposed to be a sequel to the movie, it will have the same star in the same role. Chow Yun-Fat plays a Hong Kong detective named Inspector Tequila, and he's down for taking out some gunrunners. Only a few scenes will be similar like the tea house shootout, but both versions will be action-packed. With the same actor starring in the movie and doing motion-captures in-game, expect gun slinging kung fu action to be in both titles. The release of Stranglehold:Collector's Edition will be listed in history as the first to have both game and a full length movie in a single blu-ray disc. There's nothing announced yet about the PC and Xbox 360 versions getting their own special editions, but keep your fingers crossed. The game is set for an August release, so keep those guns in their holsters for now. |

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has announced that its Taipei-based SOGA studio together with Shanghai Northstar is developing a game based on the movie "Kung Fu Hustle". Players should be able to encounter familiar characters from the movie such as the Landlady, the Sidekick, Sin, among others. The video game should feature a branching story mode, and players should be able to hone their Kung-Fu skills by challenging a host of wacky enemies across China. The game should also have a versus mode that should allow for eight players to fight against each other in multiplayer mayhem. There are also plans to allow players to purchase extra lives and virtual items in exchange for cash. It was said that the game will be designed specifically for the Chinese market. We are hopeful though that we'll be able to get a subtitled version. Or even better, we hope that we'll get a badly dubbed version, complete with mismatched voice-timing. While we're eager to see Stephen Chow in a video game, some Kung-Fu fans here at QJ are sort of wishing that the movie "Shaolin Soccer" also gets the same treatment. The press announcement did not clarify for which platform the game will be made. Given that note on possible microtransactions for the game, we speculate that a PS3 release is likely. We'll update you as soon as more details are made available. |

It's silly, this video is. Filled with cute women, and a monkey. Rather, a monkey-fighting woman fights men in this video. What are we talking about? Her name is Eileen, and she uses a monkey-styled kung fu to subdue her opponents. She's one of the main people you'll see throughout most of this video for Virtua Fighter 5, along with Shun Di, master of the Drunken Fist, Vanessa Lewis, the tough brawler girl who fights suspiciously like Paul Phoenix, and Kage, the ever lovable ninja of death and destruction. Now, this video is supposed to be from Sony's Paris showroom for the PS3. Whether or not the French are good gamers remains to be seen, but they aren't too impressive as fighters in this video. Still, it's an excuse to see more of Sega's prolific technical fighting game, and that's always a good thing. Enjoy! Download: [Virtua Fighter 5: Gameplay from Paris] |
