Nyko logo - Image 1Third-party manufacturer Nyko Technologies has just announced their new distribution deals with Inellec Multimedia in France and Gem Distribution in the UK.

This new partnerships will enable Nyko to circulate its products within the corresponding distributor's countries. This includes more commonly known console peripherals like Nyko's Intercooler for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and the Wii Charge Station. Scott Berlin, Nyko's International Sales VP, had this to say regarding the new deal:

Nyko has always been committed to providing gamers not only in the US, but also the world, with access to the most innovative peripherals for video gaming and digital lifestyles. Our new agreements with Inellec Multimedia and Gem Distribution demonstrate this vision and we look forward to forging ahead and establishing the Nyko brand in even more countries and territories around the globe.

In relation to this news, Nyko is also announcing its presence at the upcoming Leipzig Games Convention (a.k.a. GCDC 2007), where it will be presenting its current and upcoming wares. This year's Games Convention will be taking place from August 23 to 26, at the Leipziger Messe Fairgrounds in Leipzig City, Germany.

Front Man 360 - Image 1

Third-party peripheral developer Nyko displayed some fun in the E3 event, offering an accessory for each of the current next gen consoles the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

The most notable among their wares is Nyko's Party Station for the Wii, which brings a whole new meaning of "party" to Wii being the "party console". This table top Wii accessory includes four detachable freezer cooled drink holders, as well as a small tray for chips and dip - fit for partying indeed. The actual gaming function of the Party Station is to store four Wii controllers as well as a handy drawer to stow the Nunchuks in. The best - and quirkiest - part of the the Party Station, though, is the electronic score keeper and a small fan to cool overworked, sweaty palms.

For the PS3. Nyko presented the Zero Wireless PS3 controller, a good alternative for the classic-styled SIXAXIS controller. The Zero Wireless sports a cool aluminum finish with black accents that go well with the PS3's design. Unlike most other third-party controllers, the Zero Wireless comes with a six-axis motion sensing chip, which warrants a hefty US$ 60 price tag for this third-party controller.

The last item on Nyko's list is the Front Man 360, which is essentially a wireless guitar for the 360. However, there's a catch: You will need a wired Xbox 360 controller for the Front Man 360 to work.

Since Microsoft is a bit touchy with letting third parties manufacture wireless peripherals, Nyko had to find a workaround to address the connectivity issue. The only way to connect the Front Man 360's wireless device was by connecting a little adapter to the wired controller. We know that it kind of defeats the purpose of being wireless, but its good to know that Nyko is still working the technical kinks out of this useful device.

It's too bad that with E3 2007 being invitation-only, most of the gamers weren't able to witness the unfolding of this nifty devices first-hand. But hey, at least we know that we have these things coming our way soon.

The PlayStation 3 - Image 1Space on your PlayStation 3's USB ports getting sparse? We're letting the guys know that accessory manufacturer Nyko Technologies - known for their Intercooler line of accessories -  has just announced that they're now shipping two new products for the PS3 console: The ChargeBase, and the BluWave.

The ChargeBase accessory will allow users to allow PS3 owners to charge up to four SIXAXIS controller at once and, given that it uses a wall socket instead of a USB plug, should help free up some needed space on your console's USB ports.

The BluWave, on the other hand, is an infrared remote for the PS3's resident videophiles. This device should allow movie fans the ability control their PS3's Blu-Ray player with something a little more traditional than the aforementioned SIXAXIS controllers.

We don't have any info on these two device's prices - stick around in case we pick up more info in the upcoming days.

Nyko PS3 Intercooler - Image 1Game console accessory manufacturer Nyko has just released news that they have begun shipping their PS3 Intercooler. Previously announced last year, this new cooling fan attachment will hopefully serve to keep Sony's notoriously hot (how to take the connotation is up to you) PS3 in check. Among its noted features:
  1. Increase air flow and reduces heat throughout the PlayStation 3
  2. Clip-on assembly for easy installation
  3. Improved protection for internal circuitry of the PS3
  4. Cooler temperatures mean extended life and reliability
We imagine that PS3 owners in some of the world's more tropical climates will find this news most refreshing, although to the PS3's merit, we haven't really been picking up reports of the unit overheating. Nyko's PS3 Intercooler attachment will go for US$ 29.99 at local retailers.

Guitar Hero - Image 1In an attempt to clarify details surrounding previous reports regarding the cancellation of Nyko's Guitar Hero Play Adapter, Nyko sent an email to the crazy and entertaining folks over at Kotaku. Nyko explains:

Current technology makes it impossible to properly pass the special functions of the guitar controller to the PS3 with its existing protocol. Features like the whammy and strum bars do not function properly. Being adamant players of Guitar Hero we know how important precise controls are to fans of the series. We will not produce a product if it falls short of those expectations.

We are disappointed that we need to shelve this product as it has been one of the most requested items since its announcement at CES 2007 with numerous inquiries from consumers on a daily basis. If new technology or a firmware update is released that enables us to provide full support for Guitar Hero 1 and 2 on the PS3 via the Play Adaptor, we will reactivate the development of this product.

Again, we would like to express our regret for needing to put this product on hold as we know many people were looking forward to its release.

Hopefully, an appropriate firmware update will be released that will address this problem. Realistically speaking though, it's highly unlikely that will see one soon, and that Sony will take the time to make a firmware update for a third party controller.

So much for all that "limitations in the PlayStation 3 hardware" stuff that's been spread around, from the way their explanation sounds, it really looks like more of a firmware problem.
