Obsidian Entertainment's tweet yesterday revealed that you can actually finish the Alpha Protocol (Xbox 360, PS3, and PC) game without killing anyone. Intriguing, indeed, especially when you take into consideration the fact that it is a stealth-RPG title. You know, one where you sneak up on people precisely so you can kill them without much of a fuss?

Rumor confirmed - Obsidian Entertainment has finally announced through their official forums that the Aliens RPG has indeed been canned. For those who've been trying to get more updates on the matter, then this ought to be the final nail on that coffin.

Fans of Bethesda's Fallout 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) will have something new to look forward to next year. No, not more DLC, but an actual new Fallout game from vets who worked on the first two games in the series (no this isn't the MMO).

It wasn't hyped up enough for me to feel genuinely sorry to see it go, but it's still a pity that this project didn't pull through. The Aliens RPG that's been in development in Obsidian Entertainment is now confirmed to be canceled - or at least, as confirmed as it's probably going to get.

Okay, so we've reported that Sega is making an Alien RPG with the guys of Obsidian Entertainment. Well, just in case you don't agree with the concept of an Alien RPG, here's some good news for you. Apparently Sega is going to work with the guys from Gearbox Software, to create an FPS Alien title for next-generation systems.

So what previous titles have Gearbox been involved with? Well, Halo and Half Life is at the top of the list, so rest assured that the franchise is in good hands.

Of course we're really hoping that the new Alien FPS captures the fear that was imposed on you by the gameplay of that old Aliens vs. Predator FPS. Why are we referencing an old game? Well, that old title was just one of the scariest games of all time. Its bad graphics, and iffy gameplay has, in a sort of lucky-accident-twist-of-fate-way, spawned one of the most gut-wrenching, oh-my-god-I'm-about-to-die-go-away-crazy-facehugger gameplay experiences. If this new Aliens FPS somehow captures that, then we've got a winner.

What's next? An Alien RTS? That would be nice right? Honestly though, we're thinking they should stop at platformer.

Chestbusters and more Giger monstrosities are soon going to be invading next-gen consoles and PCs, thanks to Sega and Obsidian Entertainment, with the former announcing today that the latter has been tapped to create a role-playing game based on the "Alien" film franchise.

Since its 1979 debut, Alien and its three sequels have grossed more than US$ 557 million worldwide, garnering numerous awards, including two Academy Awards. Alien was even deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress in 2002 and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

"We are thrilled to be working with the great production and publishing teams at SEGA to deliver the ultimate in-depth Alien experience to gamers worldwide," said Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment. "Building an epic RPG with a license as heralded as the Alien franchise is truly a great honor."

Obsidian will be drawing upon their wealth of experience creating successful games such as the best-selling Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: Sith Lords and the award-winning Neverwinter Nights 2 to bring the "Alien" franchise to RPG fans for the first time.
