Sony motion tech patent - Image 1When Sony showed off its new motion control tech at E3 last month, the demo featured a LED wand as a controller. A recently published patent, however, hints that Sony may also be working on tech that would let players use everyday objects as controllers.

Chip - Image 1Following yesterday's report that a Sony patent was spotted, pointing to a purely software-based solution to the PS2 emulation issue, TheSixthAxis reports that the PS2 emulation issue isn't due to the Emotion Engine, which is already up and running. The problem lies with the Graphics Synthesizer, which now appears to be an obstacle to downloadable PS2 games on the PlayStation Store.

Emotion Engine - Image 1For those who don't know, the Emotion Engine is the chip that Sony designed which acts as the PS2 CPU. The non-backwards compatible PS3s do not have one of these, hence, no PS2 games. According to the patent spotted, Sony is readying the code and the technology to use the Emotion Engine once again.

PS3 Weekend Warrior - Image 1I wouldn't want to get lost in Hideo Kojima's mind. Judging by the twists and turns he's constantly presenting in his games his mind must be some kind of labyrinthine maze where even a piece of string tied to the entrance won't help you find your way back. By my estimation, the Hideo Kojima tag is the one that's seen the most use on our PlayStation 3 blog this week, thanks to all the hubbub surrounding his next project. For more on this week's crop of PS3 news, read on for the latest edition of the PlayStation 3 Weekend Warrior. It's Hideo-rific!

DualShock 2 - Image 1Anyone who's ever manned the average white collar job would know that you'd spend most of the work hours with your hands practically glued to the mouse and the keyboard. But for patent examiners at the European Patent Office (EPO), that's a thing of the past - all the tedious PC work they have to do, they do in hardcore gaming fashion. Instead of the usual tools of the trade, they prefer to work with "commercial game controllers" a.k.a. the DualShock 2.

Dominion - Image 1Apart from the Warhawk + Space = Starhawk trademark that Sony filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, there is apparently another one, and this time, it's for "Dominion".

Front Mission - Image 1I haven't really kept up with the Front Mission series after the third one, but that may soon change as it looks like Square Enix is planning to bring a new Front Mission game to North America.

PS3 Motion Sensing Remote - Image 1 Rumor has it that Sony's been developing their own motion sensing remote for the PlayStation 3. According to one of Kombo's sources who "has a superb track record for accuracy," the remote is already finished and Sony's looking for publishers to support it in their games.

PS Cloud - Image 1Right off the bat, I will say that this does not have anything to do with FF7's Cloud Strife. It could, however, be related to the Lifestream - but that already's a bit of a stretch. See, when you're talking Internet jargon, a cloud basically refers to a network of resources. Cloud computing comes in when you have that cloud sharing resources for a common goal. Yes, think Folding@Home. But what's the next step for Sony?

Sony Computer Entertainment Making A Robot Accessory? - Image 1A new patent filed by Sony Computer Entertainment suggests that they may have a game in the works that will require the use of a robot peripheral running around the living room as part of gameplay. Interesting. Wonder if it can make me a sandwich.

More details after the link.
