thumb - Image 1 Surprisingly, we've got quite some bare pickings from the industry this week. Guess what comes down must go up. If last week we've had software/hardware dilemmas in terms of quantity, this week, we've got them updates by the truckloads, and the Industry News section takes the backseat.

Piracy - Image 1Ubisoft is hell-bent on putting its foot down against piracy as they are targeting this year to come out with a piracy solution for their games on the various platforms. The publisher has admitted that their products have been dealt a heavy blow because of the piracy, and they are now working on a tool that should cushion the impact of the said problem.

FF7ACCOf the 100,000 Blu-ray copies of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete sold in Japan during its first day, at least one of those would have been ripped digitally and leaked into the Internet already. Square Enix knows that, and they're sure tightening the noose on ACC piracy.

piracyThe ESA board must have been reduced to tears of joy yesterday - to them, I'm sure, they now believe there is a god. This week, the Swedish court has found the four operators of torrent site The Pirate Bay guilty as charged for copyright infringement and illegal activities (digitally distributing illegal copies of games and media content). Of course, ESA is more than happy with this victory against the ongoing war on piracy - so happy, in fact, that they had to come up with an official press release about it!

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete - Image 1Just like what they do with their infamous Closed Mega Theater, Square Enix held private screenings for two of their high-profile properties: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, and a quick tease for Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360). Again, a select few get to see some Squeenix booty ahead of the rest of us. In the meantime, let's take a look at stuff we're allowed to see.

Need cash? - Image 1Well no wonder you've got layoffs in the industry recently - not to mention the shutting down of certain studios and whatnot. According to research conducted by EEDAR, only 4% of the total games out in the market ever make a profit - all other 96% just either break even or lose money. Yeouch.
