The French Senate recently voted 297 to 15 in support for a controversial anti-piracy initiative which will restrict Internet access to suspected pirates. French internet users may find their home IPs either suspended or banned outright on grounds of suspicious behavior.

Recent documents being passed around Congress and the PotUS office [insert West Wing red tape montage here] gave birth to a new anti-piracy bill which was signed into law as the "Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2008" or, in short, PRO-IP. British game developers have launched an all-out war against illegal file-sharers. They're not about to take piracy in the industry sitting down. But the music industry, another victim of the pirates, aren't backing them up on this cause. It's an apparent disagreement in approach and disposition.

The ELSPA anti-piracy unit was hard at work once again as it found two more illegal video game traders at the Bradford Computer Fair. Over £100,000 in goods were seized by the joint operation conducted between the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service (WYTSS) and West Yorkshire Police. This amount comes in the form of some 12,000 copied software and over 150 devices used for modding console systems More details regarding this in our full article.

It's still a hot topic whether Crytek will actually bring Crysis to consoles or not. However, developer Crytek's president Cevat Yerli may have placed the final nail in the coffin by revealing the stance his company has taken after its most recent title suffered from piracy. The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) and some of its partners recently conducted a raid which yielded illegally copied Nintendo DS games stored on discs. Meanwhile, ELSPA's crime unit head, John Hillier, wants to remind gamers (whatever console you may own) the detestable effects of piracy on the whole industry.
