Marvel Vs. Capcom. Capcom Vs. SNK. Namco x Capcom. What will be the next versus game that will pit two well-known franchises against each other? According to the rumors going around recently, there are talks of a next-gen versus title that will make Mortal Kombat go against a yet-unnamed well-established franchise.Sounds a bit too incredible? We don't blame you. However, Mortal Kombat resource site TRMK states that their sources have confirmed that the latest Mortal Kombat title to hit the next-gen consoles will be indeed a versus title. But what could the other franchise be? Some say that it will be the DC Universe, but that idea may be a bit too farfetched what with Mortal Kombat known to be a bit too bloody for its own good. This mystery Mortal Kombat title is slated to be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 late next year, according to series co-creator Ed Boon. Certainly an interesting news from the rumor bin. Will this turn out to be true? Stay tuned for details. |

Gaming site Kotaku is now reporting that SNK Playmore will be resurrecting the King of Fighters video game franchise for the new generation of gamers in early 2009. The said company is planning to release King of Fighters XII for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.The news came from SNK Playmore Overseas Marketing Manager Yoshihito Koyama. The official also mentioned that the reason for the long wait is that they believe that between 2009 to 2010 is a good time frame to release a video game title on the PlayStation 3. There are still no details regarding the gameplay mechanics of King of Fighters XII but Koyama shared that it is going to be a 3D fighting game shaded to look 2D. It was also said that a Japanese arcade version of the title will be released later in 2009. King of Fighters was born out of SNK Playmore's plan to create a dream match of characters from its various arcade games like Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting. The last true entry, King of Fighters XI, was released in 2005. |

For every ground-breaking title out there, there exists an unsung hero. They – like soldiers and bad sitcoms of old – are the miserable underdogs who never receive the due credit they deserve for their work. We're not talking about the developers - we're talking about specialists - the (fictional) guys who work behind the scenes to ensure that the elements in whatever genre you play will always remain in tip-top condition, whether its your resident androgynous antagonist 's script, or your unfriendly neighborhood mook's marksmanship scores. These guys will be the topic of today's quick list - along with an explanation with that special thing they do just to make the game better for one special individual - you. On to the list! 1. Sephiroth's acting coachLet's be honest - Sephiroth isn't that original. More than one anime, manga, and J-RPG can boast its own brew of silver-haired, bad-ass sword-wielding bishie hotness, with Sephie being just a part of this popular trend. What sets him apart, however, is execution (acting, not Aeris…). Sephiroth's dark foreboding lines and steely glare will haunt many a gamer's dreams, and for this, we can thank the man's ever-capable acting coach. We're talking the drama-guru who made Sephiroth walk the walk, talk the talk - the dude who probably taught him captivatingly cheesy one-liners like "Shall I give you despair?" I'm afraid you haven't, Mr. Sephiroth's Acting Coach. You did give plenty of fanboys/girls something to think about for their next few - err - dreams, though... Special accreditation goes to Cloud's hairdresser. The rest of the list is available in the Full Article |

Armchair pugilists take notice - Sony's just unleashed a torrent of retro SNK fighting game joy onto PlayStation Store Japan, as well as a handful of unforgettable classics from legendary developers such as Idea Factory and Atlus.Earn the title that's still being coveted to this very day with King of Fighters '97. Let your trusty blade do all the talking for you in Samurai Spirits: Kenkaku Yubinan Pack (never released outside the US, and available for ¥600 - or US$6). Ask your opponent if he's okay, and then SLAM your fist into his face with Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special: Dominated Mind. And finally, get into some smoothly-animated, crazy-fighting action with the original Guilty Gear. Certainly good news for us token junkies itching to finally get some sweet arcade fighting joy on the road - and also on our couches, with downloaded PS1 titles fully compatible with the PlayStation 3. Retro addicts should also know that Sony went ahead and updated a bunch of PS1 games they previously released for download to work on the next-gen console, so everybody wins. Let's hope Sony doesn't let up on the retro goodness. In the meantime, here's the complete list of the new titles out this week for your reading pleasure.

While this list isn't exactly the most original of its kind, we wanted to offer our take on which mamas are the hottest in the virtual world. Everything here is subjective and any list is as good as ours. So without remorse, this is our top 10 hottest game babes to date:10. Maria Renard (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night)- The blonde hottie from Alucard's big night out may not have been seen in 3D glory and all, but the portrait was convincing enough. With her perfect complexion, killer brown eyebrows and the wavy, golden hair, she was a perfect leading lady to match with the vampiric charm of Dracula's son. 9. Mai Shiranui (King of Fighters)- Mai first appeared in the first half of the 90's in Fatal Fury 2. She immediately became one of the stars of the game for obvious reasons: She had the moves and the physique to match. Where rival bear 'em up Street Fighter II featured more conservative lady brawlers, SNK showed Mai's assets off with an innovative twist: Bouncing jubblies! Now imagine the testosterone levels in the old-school arcades more than a decade ago. 8. Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy VII)- The gorgeous good girl of the legendary RPG Final Fantasy VII may have led a short and sweet character lifespan, but the fact remains that she's still one of the most beloved females in the business to date. Okay, the clothes she wore may not exactly be revealing, but we have to understand that it's how she was meant to be packaged in the first place. Imagine if she was a bit more fashion-trendy: She would have given the DoA girls a run for their money. 7. Morrigan Aensland (Dark Stalkers)- The naughty night warrior does that succubus lineage proud. She looked fantastic in 2D and had the ferocity to match. The anime spin-off of Capcom's popular Halloween fighter did her justice as she was just as charming there. Call her costume weird, but that only strengthens the convictions of her appeal. You gotta admit, not a lot of girls will look sexy in that! More ladies follow at the full article. |

Optional/extra/hidden/secret videogame bosses are the guys that either get a lot of love - because they eventually serve as points of comparison to see how big your gaming wang is - or they don't get noticed at all, because well, they're optional. You could very well finish the game and not get pestered by them. Their existence is an amusing one really, because much like the Colossi from Shadow of the Colossus, they're not out to ruin your day. They don't suddenly show up at the end of a stage and challenge your honor or force you into a duel to the death or whatever. You're the one who wandered into them. You're the one who crashes into their world and asks them to duke it out with you because you rock oh so much. What follows is a list of videogame bosses we loved to hate - which is a good thing since it's their job for us to hate them - and we'll gladly hunt them down again and again, even if they're minding their own business. Get the optional hate list after the jump. |

Ignition Entertainment, though a bit unknown, has a commendable roster of games under its belt. Mainly focusing on handhelds PSP and DS, the UK-based developer has somewhat managed to stay away from consoles, especially next-gen ones. The closest they got probably was the SNK deal involving Metal Slug, Samurai Showdown and King of Fighters. However, it seems that is not the case anymore as a couple of things happened with Ignition behind the stage. What happened was UTV, an Indian media and entertainment company, recently proposed acquisitions of the controlling stake of Ignition together with mobile and broadband company Indiagames. With a funding coming from a giant conglomerate, Ignition isn't talking "how" anymore. Currently they are discussing the "what and the when" of project War Devil. This is the first time we've actually heard of this game. This should not be mistaken with WarDevil: Enigma as that is being developed by Indigo Prophecy. According to Ignition Creative Director Andy Whitehurst: The project is being developed exclusively for the Sony PS3 and we're excited to be associated with Sony's next generation system. War Devil is designed to leverage not only the videogames properties of the system, but also the Blu-Ray and media rich functions of the PS3 - presenting a unique combination of both Videogame & Motion Picture into a single, unique product, which gives cinematic High Definition content in real-time on the PS3. Hmm... sounds quite promising if you ask us. However as of now, no other information is known about this project. But we will be sure to update you regarding the acquisition and if new details regarding the game comes out. |

Somebody just joined the classics bandwagon and that somebody is SNK! Although unlike the others who have gone first like Namco Bandai and Konami, the company is headed not to XBLA but to the new PlayStation Store. While it would be remembered that SNK indeed had Fatal Fury on Microsoft's online service, it seems that the company would like to focus now on the newly launched console."We've discussed an online delivery service for our classic NeoGeo titles through next-gen formats and Sony Computer Entertainment has agreed to our propositions," revealed SNK Game Titles Director Soichiro Hosoya. He added then that the whats and the whens of the matter can not be disclosed yet. Also, Hosoya mentioned that they offered the same to Microsoft Corporation but the latter is yet to make a response. "Of course, we wish to launch our NeoGeo titles through Xbox Live Arcade but we cannot tell whether they'll accept our offer or not at present," explained the director. "We've been sending our propositions to Microsoft for a while, but it will depend on their policy," Hosoya lamented. It would be remembered that a few months ago, SNK is quite apprehensive of releasing titles for the PS3 because of its price. SNK boasts of NeoGeo hits like NAM-1975, The Last Blade and King of the Monsters. |
