It may not exactly be the big March update we're waiting for, but it will do for now. Sony has just updated the PS3's firmware to 1.54, and is now available for the guys who've kept their consoles logged on the net.Aside from the routine security updates, this update now allows console owners to use a compatible USB camera to go with their next video chat session. Read on for the full change list (1.5/1.51 included): Users

A few days ago, we were talking about the top 10 things
we liked about the PS3, all as a show of devotion for our new
companion. But like all love relationships, you gotta expect things to
go through rough times, all the more as the relationship is just
beginning.1Up.com decided that it was time to throw all the big quirks they've picked up on the PS3 into one cohesive list, and while a lot of these probs are pretty normal for a new console, we thought you'd be able to relate with at least one item on the list. Rememeber: Always expect bugs on a console's first launch; It's as certain as toast landing butter-side down. SIXAXIS Syncing More of an irritation than a major gripe. It's annoying that every time you and your buddies have to play, you gotta jack up your SIXAXIS controllers if they're coming from another console. Multitasking We found out about this the hard way: we started DL'ing our copy of the Resistance: Fall of Man demo, only to find out that the console doesn't do multitasking: If you're DL'ing, you can't even load up a Blu-Ray game while you waited for all 800+mb to finish their trip. Have a good paperback or your PSP handy, and remember that even early 360s had this problem - expect updates to cure it. PS3's HD cables...none here We like HDTV, and while the PS3 was all about making the most of HD-TV technology to go with its next-gen graphics, we'd like to ask: where are the cables? The PS3 bundle only comes with standard composite cables, and while you can get a separate HDMI set, it'll cost you US$ 70. Then again, how many of us even own an HD-TV? PS1/PS2 Adaptor We don't really mind having to upload all our old PS1 and PS2 save files into the PS3's HDD - we had a habit of losing the cards anyway. What we do mind is that the PS3 requires a memory card adaptor to load the cards, and while there's already news of the adaptors being out on the market, we'll keep our fingers crossed. The full article awaits after the jump! |
